Walter Michael Ciecura, Jr., age 65, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2020 at his home in Lakewood. Born in Newark and raised in Hillside, Walter was a railroad train enthusiast since childhood when trains went past his house in Hillside and later when he enjoyed visiting train museums.
Walter resided in Belmar for many years where he was a volunteer EMT before moving to Lakewood 11 years ago.
Mr. Ciecura was a member of Christ the King Church in Hillside where he served as an altar boy.
Walter was an avid collector of Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars. He was very active in his Leisure Village community, playing bocce, being part of the neighborhood watch team and the computer club.
He also volunteered a lot of his time for his daughter Colleen at the Arc of Monmouth County, the Special Olympics of New Jersey, and the Starlight Performers. He could always be found at Ippolito’s, his favorite pizzeria, and Denny’s in Brick with his friends and family.
He is predeceased by his parents, Walter M. and Joan (Kearns) Ciecura , and his beloved wife, Laura (Gerbehy) Ciecura.
Surviving are his cherished daughter, Colleen Ciecura and his sister, Cathy Stelzl and her husband, George along with Aunts Eleanor (Sissy), Jackie, and Marion and several cousins.
