William J. Onderdonk, 84, of Spring Lake Heights, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2020.
Bill was born in New York and raised in Brielle. He graduated from Manasquan High School and attended Drew University. He then served in the Navy, where he was trained as an aviator. He went on to a successful career as a manufacturing executive. Upon retiring he worked for many years as a crossing guard at the Spring Lake Heights School, and as a beach badge attendant at the Spring Lake beach. He enjoyed spending time at the beach and with his family.
Bill was predeceased by his wife Mary Lee (Forrest) in 1987. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Onderdonk Haste, of Spring Lake Heights, and by his son, Jeffry Onderdonk, of Euless, Tx. He was the beloved grandfather of Adam William and Garrett Aiden Haste, and Kathryn Mary, Rebecca Ann and Thomas Archer Onderdonk. Also surviving are Bill’s former son-in-law, Cameron Haste, his former daughter-in-law, Tina Onderdonk, and his sister, Carol Milonas.
Memorial visitation will take place at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35, Wall, on Saturday, February 1, 2020, from 2-5 PM, with military honors to be conducted at 5 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s memory may be made to Spring Lake First Aid Squad, 309 Washington Avenue, PO Box 94, Spring Lake NJ 07762, or to the Spring Lake Heights Police Association, 555 Brighton Avenue, Spring Lake Heights, NJ 07762.
