Obituary for William Wagner

William Wagner, 86, of Point Pleasant, New Jersey, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at Hackensack Meridian Hospital in Brick, New Jersey.

Bill was born and raised in Manhattan’s Inwood neighborhood, the son of Henry Walker Wagner and Carmen (née Cumba) Wagner. He attended Stuyvesant High School and proudly served in the US Army in the 82nd Airborne in Germany until his Honorable Discharge in 1957.

Upon coming back to the States, Bill became a New York City fire fighter and met the love of his life, Margaret Mary Muldoon.  They were married in 1959.  Marge inspired Bill to go to college on the GI Bill, and with 2 small children he earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Manhattan College in 1970.  He completed the 5-year program in 4 years and began his career at General Services Administration in the Design and Construction Division.  His work included the design and construction of the Federal Court Buildings in lower Manhattan, and other large projects throughout the U.S. and U.S. Territories.

Bill retired as a Deputy Director.

In the early 1970’s, after years of vacationing at the Jersey Shore with Marge’s family, the young family decided to make life a permanent vacation by moving to Point Pleasant, where they have lived ever since.

Devoted to his family and country, Bill will be dearly missed.  We will especially remember his witty jokes, his secret Spanish Rice and Chicken recipe and his sincere nature. He will be remembered as a fun-loving and selfless man who put his wife and family first.

Bill was predeceased by his parents Carmen and Henry Wagner, and his sister, Beatrice Wagner McGrath (John). He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Margaret Mary, and his son, William (Cindy) of Wall Township and daughter, Christine Wagner-Lewis of Point Pleasant and his 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.  His grandchildren are Dylan Patrick Wagner and his wife Kristyn, and great grandsons, Carson and Cooper of Wall Township, Harrison St. John Wagner and his wife Carolyn, of Singapore, Mary Gibson Baker and her husband Daniel, of Ardmore, PA, Isabel Rose Bucchino and her husband Robert, of Boston, MA, Zelda Catherine Wagner of Wall Township and Liam Joseph Lewis of Aguadillo, Puerto Rico.  He also loved dearly his nieces Allison Bannon (Mark) and Aileen Giordano (Ryan).

Visitation will be held at O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick, New Jersey on Thursday, December 15th from 3-7pm. The funeral mass will be on Friday, December 16th at 9:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, 406 Forman Ave, Point Pleasant Beach.

Mausoleum entombment will follow at St. Anne's Cemetery in Wall, NJ.
