Obituary for Richard C Shannon

Richard C. Shannon, 63, of Atlantic Highlands, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2013 at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank. Mr. Shannon was a police officer for the Department of Defense at Fort Monmouth in Eatontown before retiring in 2011. He was a US Marine Corps Veteran during the Vietnam War from 1968-1969. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion at Port Monmouth and also belonged to the Vietnam Veterans and Disabled Veterans of America.
Born in Fort Monmouth, he grew up in Hazlet before moving to the Atlantic Highlands in the early 1970’s.
He was preceded in death by his father Richard Shannon, mother Violet Shannon, step-father Ernest Miller and sister Eileen Malinconico. Surviving are his brothers Gary Shannon and his fiancé Laura Sisk of Brick, Kevin Shannon and his wife Cindy of Newport, NC; and 8 nieces and nephews.
A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-7pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick. The service and military honors will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 7pm. Interment will private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to any American Veterans organization.
