Obituary for Joseph L. Kirchgessner Sr.

Joseph L.  Kirchgessner Sr.
Joseph L. Kirchgessner, Sr., 74, of Toms River, passed away at his home on Wednesday, August 13, 2014.
Mr. Kirchgessner was born in Neptune. He was raised in Belmar, before moving to Wall in 1963, where he and his wife raised their family. He moved to Toms River in 2000. He was a supervisor for Harris Bros., Wall, for many years, before retiring in 2002. He was also a Life Member of the Glendola Fire Company, having joined in 1967, and served as Chief in 1979-80. He served as a soccer coach as his sons were growing up, and later enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s games.
Mr. Kirchgessner was predeceased by his parents, Arthur Kirchgessner and Ethel McGuiness, as well as by his brother, Robert Kirchgessner, and his sister, Joan Jones. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Sue (Iona, nee Van Brunt) Kirchgessner, and his sons and their wives, Joseph, Jr. and Donna, of Brick, and Thomas and Lesley, of Beachwood. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lisa, and her husband, Jared Gajewski, Krissy Hoffman, and Joseph III, Joshua, T.J., Keriann, Rebecca, Jenilee, and Justine Kirchgessner. He is also survived by a brother, Dennis Kirchgessner, of Florida, many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, as well as other relatives and friends.
Visitation will take place at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35, Wall, on Sunday, August 17, 2014, from 1-5 P.M. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, August 18, 2014, at 9:30 A.M., followed by interment at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Kirchgessner’s memory may be made to Glendola Fire Company, 3404 Belmar Boulevard, Wall, NJ 07719.
