Obituary for Carl "Gavino" Mennie

Carl “Gavino” C. Mennie, 81, of Spring Lake Heights, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 31, 2014, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank, N.J. surrounded by his family.
Born in Asbury Park, Carl resided in Spring Lake Heights, N.J., for 44 years.
Carl was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean War. Carl was an HVAC mechanic for E & R. Refrigeration Co., Jersey City, N.J. and then was self-employed, retiring in 2003.
He was a parishioner of St. Catharine Catholic Church, Spring Lake, and was a member of the Church’s choir.
Carl survived by his wife of 55 years, Josephine Cocuzza Mennie and his five children, Carl Mennie, Jr., Howell, N.J., Robert Mennie, Plainfield, N.J., Michael Mennie, Neptune, N.J., Steven Mennie, Charlotte, N.C., and JoAnn Mennie, Wall, N.J. He is also survived by his brother, Andrew Mennie, of Spring Lake Heights, N.J. Carl was the loving grandfather of Kristen, Taylor, Nicholas, Michael, Steven, Gavin, Jenna and James.
Visiting will be Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Highway 35, Wall, N.J. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:30 AM at St. Catharine Catholic Church, 215 Essex Avenue, Spring Lake, N.J. Interment will follow at the Brig Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown, N.J. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Carl’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 400 Morris Avenue, Suite 215, Denville, N.J. 07834-1365
