Eugene J.Carmody, Uncle Gene, was a very interesting man. We always found something to talk about, and always found our conversations to be interesting. Somehow, he always found, what I had to say, interesting. He always found, how I felt, interesting. He always found, what I was going to do, interesting. What I found interesting was that he was always sincere, true, and honest, and this quality has made me a better person in life by knowing Uncle Gene.
Near the end,as he laid in his bed, I sat along side of him holding his hand and I leaned over and asked him, "So Uncle Gene, what's the plan?" He squeezed my hand and just smirked, but I knew he could hear me and that he was there with me. So I said, "The plan is, it's time to rest and relax", and he squeezed my hand again and smiled. I knew he was ready to rest, relax, and be peaceful. After several seconds he calmed down and relaxed and I felt he was starting to rest, so I leaned over, kissed him on his head and said "I love you, Godspeed my friend", he then squeezed my hand even tighter only confirming to me that he was at rest with everything. I did not want to say goodbye, nor should anyone else, but only to bid him a peaceful farewell, because we shall see him again someday. I know that when we cross paths again, his love will shine even brighter. Rest in peace, Uncle Gene, Eugene J. Carmody.
