Obituary for Stephen F. Braun

Stephen F.  Braun
Stephen (Steve) F. Braun 86, of Sea Girt, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2015. Steve was born in Jersey City, to Stephanie (nee Krall) and Bernard Bergkamp. Steve was a graduate of St. Peter’s Prep and St. Peter’s College. He was a varsity point guard at Prep and a relief pitcher for their baseball team. Steve played for Navy’s Bayonne basketball team; he joined the Navy and served for 2 years during the Korean War and 8 years in the National Guard Reserves. Steve was a member of the Newspaper Guild of New York and retired from the New York Post management team at the age of 62. Steve and his wife are parishioners of St. Catharine Church in Spring Lake.
Steve enjoyed playing golf, watching the Mets, Knicks and Giants. He attended many sports events to watch his grandchildren and loved spending time with his family. Steve and his wife Grace lived in Sea Girt, and spent time in Wilmington, NC and were members of Shipyard Golf Club in Hilton Head, SC.
Steve is survived by his wife of 60 years, Grace (nee McCombs) Braun, and their four children and their spouses; Stephen, Jr. and Elizabeth Braun, of Little Silver, MaryBeth D’Antoni, of Sea Girt, Ann Marie and Craig Spencer, of Oceanport, and Betsy and Bernard Corrigan, of Wilmington, NC. He also leaves his 11 grandchildren; Sean, Brian, and Lisa D’Antoni, Kevin and Christopher Ryan, Madeline, Mac and Dylan Braun, Ryan, Paige and Brooke Corrigan.
Visitation will take place at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall, on Thursday, April 23, 2015, from 3-7 P.M. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Catharine Church, Spring Lake, on Friday, April 24, 2015, at 10:30 A.M., followed by burial in St. Catharine Cemetery, Wall.
