John Andrew Sweeney, 84, of Sea Girt, NJ, passed away on March 17, 2016. John was a resident of Scarsdale, NY, for over 30 years, prior to moving to the Jersey Shore 19 years ago. John was born May 3, 1931 in Bronx, NY.

He was predeceased by his wife, Eileen Bradley Sweeney, and survived by his four loving daughters Mary Beth George (Ned) of North Potomac, MD, Kathy O’Halloran of Fairfield, CT, Eileen Flagg (Hans) of Scarsdale, NY, Megan Pacetti of Sea Girt, NJ, and 10 grandchildren.

John was a graduate of All Hallows Prep, Fordham College and Columbia Law School. He retired from The Chase Manhattan Bank in as Executive Vice President, Institutional Trust Division, after 30 years of service. John served in the Army Reserve National Guard for 28 years and retired as a Bird Colonel (1983.) He was a graduate of the US Army War College (class of ’78.) John was an Advisory Board member of Iona College. His New York memberships included Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, NY Athletic Club, Metropolitan Club and Coveleigh Club.

John was dedicated to family, friends and faith. He will be remembered for his generosity, sense of adventure, good humor and extraordinary and enduring courage in the face of adversity.

A celebration of John’s life and funeral mass will be held at St. Mark’s Church, 215 Crescent Parkway, Sea Girt, NJ, on Monday, April 11, 2016 at 12:15 p.m.
