memories of Aunt Mil

I remember the excitement around the wedding of Aunt Mil to Graham Kelly.  I remember being at the wedding.  I remember the horror of the day Graham died.  I was in third grade.

I remember that Aunt Mil brougt hom movies into our lives.  Thanks to her and to Jim's preserving them on disc, we have them to enjoy and marvel at.  I remember how she and Aunt El patiently tried to teach Ursula and me bridge.

I remember that she gave me the child's rocking chair that was always a presence in Grandma and Pop's house.  The rocking chair was my father's first Christmas present in 1913.  I treasure that chair and even today it sits (restored) in a favored spot in my living room. And when kids come to visit they love to sit in it!

I remember Aunt Mil's 80th and 90th birthday celebrations and I thank her for bringing the family together for those wonderful events.

And I remember Ursula's and my last visit, several months ago, to Aunt Mil at Harrowgate.  As I was leaving, she called me back, and showing her always keen sense of reality and, I think, her contentment in the full life that she lived,, said, "Vince, I think I'm on my way out.."  It makes me smile.  Thank you Aunt Mil for the memories.

Love nephew Vincent
