Obituary for Mary Sanseigne (MacNeill)

Mary J. Sanseigne, 85, of Brick, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2017.
Mrs. Sanseigne was born in Jersey City and was a lifelong Jersey Shore resident. She had lived in Greenbriar, Brick, since 1995. She was a graduate of Asbury Park High School, Jersey City Medical Center School of Nursing, and the Jersey Shore Medical Center Nurse Anesthetist Program. Mary had a distinguished career in nursing, serving as a Registered Nurse, Supervisor, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Chief Nurse Anesthetist at various hospitals, before retiring from CentraState Hospital. She was regarded as a pioneer in the Nurse Anesthetist field, having broken many barriers for women and nurses, for whom she was a fierce advocate. She earned numerous awards and honors during her career, and was highly regarded by the doctors and nurses with whom she worked. She was an active member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists. Mary was an accomplished dancer and enjoyed going to the Atlantic City casinos.
Mrs. Sanseigne is survived by her beloved husband James Candy, her daughter Katherine Sanseigne, her grandsons, Martin and Gregory Kerrigan, and 3 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her step-daughter, Ann Stein. Mary was predeceased by her siblings, Dorothy Beekman, and Joseph and Ronald MacNeill.
Visitation will take place at O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick, on Sunday, January 22, 2017, from 1-4 PM, followed by a funeral service at 4 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s New Jersey, 400 Morris Ave., Suite 251, Denville, NJ 07834, or via www.alznj.org.
