Obituary for Anne F. Benz

Anne F.   Benz
Anne F. Benz, 77, a longtime resident of Spring Lake, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 2017, surrounded by family in her home overlooking Lake Como.


Anne was born in Spring Lake, N.J. to Rose and Vincent Salemme. She graduated from St. Rose High School and then attended St. Frances School of Nursing. Anne started her career as a successful realtor in Bucks County, PA and later became an Administrative Assistant at AT&T, working in various roles within the Bell System including one assignment in Tehran, Iran. After retiring with her husband Bud, Anne created The Hamilton House Inn, a very popular Bed and Breakfast in Spring Lake. She was well-known for her amazing cooking skills and was the author of three cookbooks.


Anne was a communicant of St. Catharine and St. Margaret Roman Catholic Church. She was an active participant in many community activities and organizations including The Women's Club of Spring Lake Inc., was a founding member of Preservation Alliance of Spring Lake, a member of the Spring Lake Historical Society, contributor to the Knit Wits (knitting tiny baby caps for the local NICU), a passionate Mahjong player, taught Bridge classes at the Essex and Sussex and also was the Commissioner of the Ludlow Avenue Bocce League.


Anne is survived by her husband Charles "Bud" of 58 years, four sons and their wives: Charles and Barbara, William and Gail, Vincent and Bonnie, and Kevin and Susan. She was also a devoted grandmother to nine grandchildren: Chad, Zack, Rob, Justin, Devon, Jordyn, Sara, Emily and Max and her loving dog Beau.


Visitation will take place at O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35, Wall, on Thursday, March 23rd from 2-4 and 7-9pm. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Catharine Roman Catholic Church, Spring Lake, on Friday, March 24th, at 10:30 am, followed by interment at St. Catharine Cemetery, Wall. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to the AIDS Resource Foundation for Children.
