My favorite story about Dad and Joe (he told it so many times and I laughed harder every time): Dad went on a ride along with Joe one afternoon. They get called to a fire and the house is really blazing. Joe turns to dad and says something like "I gotta go in there to see if anyone is alive" he turns and goes running into the house. Dad jumps out of the car and is panicked, no other EMS Fire Deparment or Police personnel are there yet. They start to show up, five, ten, fifteen minutes.........no Joe Byrne. Dad is beside himself. He is looking around and finds one of the cops that knows he and Joe. "Joe is still in there he went running in there fifteen minutes ago my god we have to save him" frantic about his best pal. The cop turns and looks him sorta crooked "Joe Byrne?" He says, "he's around the back having coffee." Dad rips into Joe, "you SOB I was so upset" as Joe and the other cops standing around are hysterically laughing. I am not kidding I was smiling the entire time while I wrote it out. If you catch Jamie Byrne at the services this week, ask him about it. His father Joe laughed and smiled just as much while Dad told it.
