My Uncle Dan

My Uncle Dan was always one of the happiest people I've ever known.  When I think of him the word that comes to mind is "jolly".  He was larger than life and always had a story or a joke to tell.  From playing with the little ones by taking out his fake teeth or showing them his expandable belts, he always knew how to get a laugh.  When I was young I thought he was the coolest relative ever.  He would let me see the cells at the police station, let me visit their dark room and would take me for a ride in the police car. He brought me on safety patrol trips where I got to watch him rescue all of the kids who would get their tongues stuck on the dry ice he used to chill the ice cream snacks.  He even helped teach me how to drive as my mother declared she couldn't after 1 time in the car with me. (He was a brave man too!)  As he got older, we would share stories of our experiences at school; him as a substitute teacher and me as a Vice Principal in Elizabeth.  His pride in being a police officer was evident every time he would tell us a tale from his years with the Belmar PD.  He was Dan, Mr. Moynihan, or Chief Moynihan to the entire town of Belmar, but to me he was just my Uncle Danny. I miss you already Uncle Dan but I know you and my dad are enjoying a glass of chianti and remembering the good old days and so will I.

Love,

Linda
