LEO QUIGLEY, 92 OF BRADLEY BEACH. WWII VET, PROUD IRISHMAN AND LOVING FAMILY MAN.
On Sunday, May 14, 2017,Our Lord called his faithful servant Leo to join the love of his life, Catherine to with Him to His Heavenly Kingdom.
Leo was born in Roselle and grew up in Bayonne and Roselle Park. He attended Holy Family Academy in Bayonne NJ and graduated in 1943. After high school Leo enlisted in the US Navy during WWII. He served his country proudly aboard the USS Denebola. He was always proud of being a Navy man and serving his country was an honor he treasured.
After the war, he returned home and married Catherine, nee O’Brien and settled in Roselle to raise their family and continue his service to others. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus council 3946, Roselle NJ, the Holy Name Society at St. Joseph The carpenter Parish as well a supporter of the St. Joe’s Little League. Leo was one of the driving forces and founders of Roselle Catholic HS and is member of their “You Make a Difference“ hall of fame. Leo was the owner Of Quigley’s Service Center in Roselle for many years before retiring in 1984.
Besides work and volunteering Leo loved golfing, bowling and his favorite team the NY Mets. But his greatest joy was spending time at the shore with his family. He loved when they all visited and especially enjoyed all the BBQ’s and visitors at the house. He loved to talk and joke with everyone and always gave his signature good-bye “Happy Motoring” when we headed home.
Leo was predeceased by his parents, Irene and James Quigley, the love of his life Catherine and 9 siblings, James, Edward, Robert (Thomas), Jean, Renee, Dorothy, Mary, Helen and Clare. He is survived by his sister Kathleen Hayser of Roselle Park, his loving children, Leo of Belmar, Joseph and Barbara of Cranford, Maureen Flumerfelt and her companion Jimmy George of Manasquan, James of Bradley Beach, John and Luann of Manasquan, Dennis and Lauren of Madison and William and Karen of Clark. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews he adored.
Visitation is on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 between 2 and 8PM, O’Brien Funeral Home , 2028 Route 35 Wall NJ. Friends and family are invited to come share in the celebration of Leo’s life.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2017 10AM at The Church of the Ascension, 501 Brinley Ave, Bradley Beach, NJ. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Memphis Tn., in Leo’s memory.
