Obituary for Francis P. "Frank" Meehan Jr.

Francis P. "Frank"  Meehan Jr.
Francis Patrick Meehan Jr., “Frank” as he was known, passed away Friday, August 24, 2018 at the New Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune. His family was by his side.
Born in Vailsburg, he met and married his beautiful wife Ginny Hughes and they raised their 5 children in South Orange. Frank was active in the community coaching Little League for his sons, attending Seton Hall sports events and volunteering for the Our Lady Of Sorrows Knights of Columbus. Frank was one of a kind! He had many friends and a great Irish wit which combined with his tall stature, and his love of people and of life gave him the presence to light up the room wherever he went! Frank and Ginny moved to Sea Brook Village at the Jersey Shore in 2012 and were happily surprised by all of the loving friends they met ad=nd reunited with there. Frank was involved in many activities at Sea Brook and spoke of being “lucky and blessed” to be there!
Frank was a graduate of Seton Hall Prep, Seton Hall University and New York Law School. He was a proud US Army Air Corps veteran serving as an Air Force radio operator in the Philippine’s and was very active in any cause that helped veterans.
Frank had been employed as an Attorney for Office of the Public Defender, State of NJ, in Essex County, retiring at the age of 67 in 1993. He was a member of the American and NJ State Bar Associations.
He was predeceased by his parents Francis P. and Bernice Deckert Meehan Sr. and his sister Florence Matis.
He will long be remembered lovingly by his wife of 66 years Virginia “Ginny“
( Hughes) Meehan, his 5 beloved children Francis P. Meehan III, Bernice Lesueur and husband Lance, Virginia Ann Cooke and husband Spencer, Christopher B. Meehan and wife Susan, and Elizabeth Mooring and husband Joseph, his 13 grandchildren and a great granddaughter.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall, NJ 07719 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at 9:30am at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 215 Crescent Parkway, Sea Girt, NJ 08750. Entombment in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Wall, NJ.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donation be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959. Envelopes will be provided at the Funeral Home on Tuesday.
