Obituary for John Berner Sr.

John  Berner  Sr.
John Berner, Sr., 85, of Whiting passed away peacefully on Friday, April 25, 2014 at the Community Medical Center in Toms River. Mr. Berner retired as a fireman at the Marlboro State Psychiatric Hospital in Marlboro, NJ. Previously, he worked as a police officer in Washington D.C. He was a US Navy Veteran during the Korean War till 1952. He also was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons.
Mr. Berner was born in Ozone Park, Queens, NY, lived in Brooklyn, NY, Old Bridge, NJ and Howell, NJ before moving to Whiting, NJ a year ago.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Cornelia Berner; brothers, Harry and Bill Berner; and by his sister, Betty Vorher.
Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years Dorothy Helen (Lynch) Berner; sons, John Berner Jr. and his wife Christine of Spotswood, NJ, Karl Berner and his wife Ellen of Neptune City, NJ; sisters, Kathleen Berner Ceglia of Woodbine, NJ and Debra Berner of Forked River, NJ. He also leaves his grandchildren, Mary, Kelly, John Michael, Brian, and Kevin; as well as his great grandson Jayden.
Military honors and burial of cremated remains will take place 10:30am on Friday, May 9, 2014 in the chapel of the Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle NJ Veterans Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.
