Obituary for William Joseph Sybel

William Joseph Sybel 89, of Pt. Pleasant Beach, NJ died Saturday, May 16, 2015 at his home. Born and raised in Jersey City, William lived there before moving to North Bergen, NJ and Pompano Beach, FL before moving to Pt. Pleasant Beach in 2001. William served in the US Navy during World War II on the Lowery DD770. He received a Purple Heart. William joined the North Bergen Police Department in 1954 and rose through the ranks to Deputy Chief, before his retirement in 1990. He was a member of the P.B.A. Local 18, the Military Order of the Purple Heart and the Disabled Veterans. He was a parishioner of St. Peter’s Church, Pt. Pleasant Beach, NJ.
William was a devoted father and grandfather who will be deeply missed. He was predeceased by his sister; Dorothy Ittleman, and his daughter-in-law; Kathy Sybel. Surviving are his children; John Sybel of Bogota, NJ, Inga Gacayan and her husband Kookie of Paauila, HI, his sister; June Przybysz of Aiken, SC, 4 grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves many dear friends, especially his best friends; Laura Gelli and Alice Jones.
Visiting will be Tuesday, May 26, 2015 from 5 PM – 9 PM at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Rd. at Rt. 70 Brick. A Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, May 27, 2015, 10AM at St. Peter’s Church, 406 Forman Ave., Pt. Pleasant. Committal will follow in St. Catharine Cemetery, Wall.
