My pen pal, Chuck

Seeking a copy of one of Dr. Chuck Wrege's articles for my historical research in the UK, I first came into contact with Chuck via email a year ago. Not only did I obtain the article in question, but we became friends. Until he passed, we had been in frequent contact, usually several times per week. Our enjoyable and penetrating e-conversations ranged from our mutual research interests, to current news events (particularly when he was snowed-in last winter), to our daily lives spent writing in the study and library.

During one conversation, it transpired that Chuck had worked as a Time Study Engineer at Weston's Electrical Instruments Company during his college studies in New York in the 1950s. As this is precisely the field of my research, Chuck was kind enough to participate in an extensive oral history interview about his work in the factory. Moreover, he was generous enough to elaborate in perspicacious detail how his work there, and his studies at NYU, inspired he and his beloved wife "B" into a lifetime of historical research.

It was a heart-warming and fascinating story, and the picture of Chuck (and Chuck with "B") included here will accompany the finished version of our interview.

I have no doubt that Chuck's memory, with his fizzing energy and highly original research methods, will continue to inspire future scholars; just as he has inspired me over the past year.
